Waverly Woman Arrested For Welfare Fraud

On January 25th, 2019, Ashley R. Cole, a 31 year old female of Waverly, NY was arrested on a warrant for Welfare Fraud 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree.

 Police say from November 2017 to August 2018, Ashley Cole submitted false documents to the Chemung County Department of Social Services. These documents were submitted for the purpose of establishing and maintaining her eligibility for public assistance. These benefits included, food stamps. 

 The Welfare Fraud Investigation Unit Conducted an investigation into the submitted documents and claims. Credible evidence of fraud was established. Based on this fraud, Ashley Cole received more than $3,500 in food stamp assistance she was not entitled to. Based on this fraud, charges were filed against Ashley Cole.

 Welfare Fraud 3rd and Grand Larceny 3rd are both class D Felonies and Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st Degree is a class E Felony.

  1. Felony charges will probably be reduced. In my humble opinion she should be sanctioned for a minimum of 5 years for any type of welfare assistance.
