New York State Police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred on Interstate 81 in the town of Cortlandville Monday morning.
State Police were dispatched to a two-car accident at approximately 6:43 a.m. on Interstate 81 south. An investigation revealed that a TLC Ambulance was traveling southbound responding to another call on the Interstate and were slowing to make a u-turn near exit 10, with all of their emergency lights activated. A 2019 Nissan Rogue operated by a 68-year-old male of Baldwinsville, NY was in the passing lane and struck the ambulance on its driver’s side before it lost control then struck the guiderail on the right side of the road.
The members of the ambulance immediately checked on the 68-year-old male who was unresponsive and they began patient care until another ambulance arrived. The 68-year-old male was transported to Cortland Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
The investigation is still pending, the name of the victim has not yet been released. No tickets have been issued at this time.
