Police Investigating Car vs Bicyclist Crash On Hoffman Street

Police are investigating a second crash involving a vehicle and bicyclist in the City of Elmira.

At around 7:30 this morning, the Elmira Police Department responded to Hoffman St at Roe Ave for a report of an MVA involving a Bicyclist.  Upon arrival officers found that a 2016 Ford sedan was traveling Southbound on Hoffman Street when the vehicle made a right turn onto Roe Ave.  The bicyclist also traveling South on Hoffman St collided with the vehicle as it turned.

As a result of the investigation the operator of the  2016 Ford was issued a ticket for “Failure To Use Due Care For Bicyclist”.  Police say the bicyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

  1. If the bicyclist collided with the vehicle as it was making the turn why was the driver ticketed?
    Too often bicyclists and pedestrians pay no attention to vehicles and will will cross or walk in front of on coming traffic without any regard for safety.

    This is one reason I dread driving in Elmira during warmer weather.. I have had bicyclists ride beside me as I’m slowing for a stop sign then ride in front of me before I’ve stopped. It’s almost like they are daring you to hit them.
