Police Investigate Threats At Two Nearby Schools

On Monday, the New York State Police responded to the Southern Cayuga School in the town of Venice, which is located in Cayuga County, for a report of a student making violent threats towards other students at the school.

Troopers located the student at his residence and he was taken into custody without incident.  The 13-year-old student was processed at SP Auburn and charged with Making a Terroristic Threat, a class “D” felony.  The student is scheduled to appear in the Cayuga County Family Court on May 22, 2019.

A similar situation was investigated in the Northern Tier after a threatening note was found at the North Penn- Mansfield High School on Monday. The district said the note was not directed at an individual and did not mention a specific act. However the threat was taken seriously and there was a heavy police presence at several schools across the district today. Students were asked not to bring backpacks and other large bags to school as a precaution.
