Area Law Enforcement Giving “Ice Cream Tickets” To Promote Bicycling Safety

Local law enforcement, the Traffic Safety Board and the Southern Tier Bicycle League have partnered again this year in promoting safe bicycling for area youth.

According to Sheriff William Schrom, this is accomplished through positive reinforcement by issuing any youngster an “ice cream ticket” if they are spotted by law enforcement wearing a protective helmet while operating a bicycle safely. This is done with the hopes of encouraging all bicyclists regardless of age to wear a bicycle helmet and other protective gear that may be necessary to keep themselves safe anytime they are operating a bicycle.
