Identity Of Woman Killed In Fire Released

Police and fire officials have released the identity of the woman who was killed in a fire on Mathews Street in the City of Elmira earlier this week.

While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Elmira Fire Department says that 44 year old Connie Allington initially made it safely out of the home when the fire began. However Allington went back into the home to rescue her pet cats and was unable to make it back out.

Officials say while it is a natural reaction to try and save pets or other belongings, it is important to quickly get out of a burning home and stay out.
