Police Car Involved In Crash In Elmira

On Wednesday evening at around 9:25 pm the Elmira Police Department responded to Clemens Center Parkway and Pennsylvania Ave for a report of a crash involving an on-duty Elmira Police Officer.

Upon arrival responding officers found that an Elmira Police vehicle was involved in a 2 car crash at that intersection. Erway Ambulance and the Elmira Fire Department also arrived on scene and rendered aid to both vehicles occupants. The police officer suffered minor injury and was transported to a local hospital, treated and released within hours. The two occupants of the second vehicle were transported to an area hospital, treated and released.  Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage.

Police say the the investigation determined that the Elmira Police Vehicle was traveling through a steady green traffic signal when the opposing vehicle disregarded a steady red traffic signal causing the crash.

The driver of the opposing vehicle, a 17 year old female of Elmira is charged with failure to stop at steady red traffic signal, operating in violation of license restrictions, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana
