The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has concluded their investigation into the death of Attorney Matt Rosno.
Police have concluded that on the evening of December 21, 2018, Rosno attended a Christmas party at a restaurant in the Village of Horseheads from approximately 6:00 p.m. to about 11:00 p.m. At the conclusion of that get-together, he and others from that party went to another establishment within the Village of Horseheads.
During the course of the evening, Mr. Rosno consumed several alcoholic beverages. At about 12:00 a.m. on the 22nd, unbeknownst to others, Mr. Rosno left the establishment on foot and began to walk in a southerly direction on South. Main St. At the time, Mr. Rosno was only wearing a suit and did not have a jacket, hat, or gloves on. It was also raining and about 38 degrees out. Mr. Rosno continued in a southerly direction down S. Main St. and at some point crossed Lake Rd. and began walking east behind a farm house and continued in that direction through a large field.
The investigation determined that due to his extended exposure to the rain and snow, and the temperature dipping as low as 34 degrees, hypothermia set in and he lost consciousness in the field. He eventually died due to the exposure of the elements. Police say that alcohol also contributed to his death. There were no other substances detected in his toxicology and officials have absolutely ruled out any suspicious conditions or foul play as contributing factors.
The investigation is now closed.
