City Court Judge To Seek Re-Election

Elmira City Court Judge Steven Forrest today formally announced his re-election bid in this fall’s election. Judge Forrest was first appointed to the bench in 1996, was re-appointed and then elected in 1997, and was subsequently re-elected in 2003 and 2009.

“Those who appear in this courtroom deserve a presiding judge who is honest, impartial and experienced,” said Judge Forrest. “During my 22 years as City Court Judge, I’ve strived to serve with these traits each and every day in order to ensure that justice is served fairly and appropriately to all individuals.”

During his more than two decades on the bench, Judge Forrest has presided over thousands of cases and more than 100 criminal and civil jury trials covering all aspects of the law. Highly respected among his peers, Judge Forrest served as President of the New York State City Court Judges Association from 2010 to 2012.

Prior to his election to the bench, Judge Forrest was a successful attorney throughout our region. Along with 26 years of private legal practice experience, he served for 11 years as a Chemung County Assistant Public Defender and four years as the City of Elmira Assistant Corporation Counsel.

Aside from his impressive judicial and legal qualifications, Judge Forrest has been an active and dedicated member of our community. He has volunteered his time with the Arctic League, Kiwanis Club, Chemung Valley Multiple Sclerosis Board, Chemung County Youth Bureau, United Way, Southport Recreation Association, Chemung Valley Soccer Association, and many other local organizations and charities.

“I’m running for re-election because serving the people of Elmira has been a true privilege and honor,” added Judge Forrest. “I look forward to sharing my track record of judicial experience and community commitment with the voters during the course of this campaign.”

Having lived in Elmira since 1966 and a graduate of Elmira Free Academy, Judge Forrest resides with his wife of 33 years, Linda. The couple has five grown children and two grandchildren.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6.
